The calm before the storm...

We wanted to spend part of our day in a photo session but our day didn't go exactly as planned. Instead, we ran a bunch of errands, took my parents to the doctor, and ran some more errands. What kind of errands would take ALL day to run? Well... like the rest of the Houston & surrounding areas, we were getting ready for the storm that is looming out in the Gulf.

Our car was running on fumes, so we NEEDED to go to the gas station. The rest of the city of Pearland was at the HEB gas station too, I think, fueling up "just in case". Lines were LONG. Then we went inside the HEB store to get some groceries that we have been needing to get - cupboards were looking pretty thin! I had been gonna go tomorrow but with the storm coming in, I had to go today. The rest of the city followed us inside too, I think. "D" batteries, water bottles, bread, canned foods... and even the ice cream... were already sold out because no one wanted to be out during the storm. I kinda expected the staple items to start running out but I had to laugh when we got to the ice cream. Who woulda thunk it?

Tonight, the weather is so calm. Almost too calm. Yet, Channel 2 was saying tonight that the storm has taken a slight north turn and they aren't sure if it's coming into Houston or going more towards Port Arthur. As badly as we need the rain, we are kinda hoping it will continue towards Houston. I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Storm on the horizon...

During the weather report on the news tonight, they said that there is a tropical storm out in the Gulf. From what they can tell, it looks like it's going to make landfall Tuesday and come right down our throats. Rob and I never do anything stupid to risk our lives to get pictures during the storms when they come in but, as soon as it is safe to get out, we always manage to get some good pictures of the area around us. As much as the Pearland and Fresno areas have been booming with development lately, I'm sure that flooding could be worse in nearby areas than in years past when it was just open fields around us. That is the part that we don't look forward to. It will be nice to have some rain though. I'll try to make a point to post some images afterwards.

Surprise!!

Our 2 boys have been spending as much of their summer at Grammie's as we will let them. They came home today though. It was nice to have them home again! Our church has services on both Saturday and Sunday, so we took them to church in the afternoon. Nick, the oldest, says he prefers Saturday services because they serve pizza and sodas before the worship time starts.

This evening, we decided to surprise the boys and take them to the Laser Light show that we saw last night at the Pearland Town Center. They were having an encore presentation but the boys didn't know that. After seeing the pictures of it today, they were jealous and whining "No fair!" that we had already gone without them. The look on their faces when they realized why they were at the mall so late at night was priceless!

On this day...

...in 1992, Rob and I were married. We actually started dating 20 years ago but on Aug. 1, 1992, we got married. Now, we look back and say "it seems like only yesterday!" For our anniversary, we decided to do something a little different and went to a laser light show at the new Pearland Town Center's Grand Opening tonight. My parents and a couple of friends, Rick and Lisa, went with us.
It was a really cool show! I have to tease Rob though - I took the camera to try and get a few pictures because he didn't want to hassle with it himself tonight. Poor baby just wanted a break. I took a picture of Rick and Lisa and another of my parents. Those are the only 2 pictures that I took all night. Rob was excited about the show after it started and shot most of a 2gb card. I knew he was going to do that... What has he got to say about it? He just offers a sheepish grin and shrugs.
